How To Install Solar Panels

3 Types of Solar Panel Mounting

One of the most frequently asked questions today is how to install solar panels. Solar energy systems, either solar thermal or Solar PV, are becoming more and more popular every day. However, the cost of professional installation can account for 30%, or more, of the total cost of your solar energy system.

By taking solar training and learning how to install solar panels, you can save hundreds of dollars in installation costs.

One of the keys to installing solar panels, is to understand how you want to install them. There are three main ways to install solar panels. The three main methods are:

  • Flush Mounting
  • Tilt Mounting (Roof or Ground)
  • Pole Mounting

No matter your locations, one of these methods will allow you to install solar panels on your home, office or other building. Here is a little about wach method of mounting and how to install solar panels.

Flush Mounting:

This is where your solar panels are mounted flat against your roof – or close to it. Technically, they are mounted on stainless steel rails to raise them off of the roof a couple of inches. However, a flush installation looks good because the solar panels are not sticking up, and are aesthetically pleasing.

Tilt Mounting:

Tilt Mounting allows your solar panels to be installed so that they are tilted upwards at an angle. This increases the solar exposure they receive by limiting losses due to incidence angle. This is particularly effective on flat roofs, roofs with a low pitch, or when ground mounting solar panels.

Pole Mounting:

Pole mounting allows you mount your solar panels on a pole for added flexibility in your installation and system design, as well as added security for ground based solar arrays. There are two main types of pole mounting – they are self-explanatory: top-of-pole mounting and side-of-pole mounting.

These are the three main types of solar panel mounting – which is the first step in learning how to install solar panels.
